OPORTO GOLF CLUB COURSE - DESCRIPTION
This golf course and its Club is one of the oldest in Europe and the owners, the Oporto Golf Club, is bound in tradition and style. Founded by a group of the old British resident families trading in port wine and finding themselves in need of some active diversion from business or family. Located only 17 kilometres to the south of the town of Porto it is within convenient reach from this busy commercial city.

The course has narrow fairways and players may find it to be relatively short in length in comparison with today’s longer courses. The two most challenging holes are the fourth and the eleventh. The latter is a long par-5 and some 494 metres long.

The oldest competition in the golfing world is played here every year. The name of this competition is the "Skeffington Cup" that was first played in 1891. From its inception it is been since played yearly without any interruption and even during the last two World Wars! This competition is played during the "Espinho Golf Week" when the members compete for the three famous cups, the Skeffington, the Kendell and the Dockery. They are considered to be the "ex-libris" of Portuguese golf.

DRIVING DIRECTIONS TO FIND THE COURSE
Take the IC-1 from Porto south towards Lisbon. Exit at the Espinho and take the EN 109 and drive through the town. There are direction signs to the course on this road south prior to Silvade.
